Advisor to the interim government in Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus, demanded an investigation into the properties of British minister Tulip Siddiq and his family. He claimed that Tulip had acquired properties during the tenure of her aunt and former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In an interview, he condemned the use of properties by Siddiq and his family even after Sheikh Hasina stepped down from the post of PM. Mohammad Yunus demanded the return of the properties to Bangladesh.

In the interview, Mohammad Yunus said, “This is about a direct robbery. Along with this, he accused the previous government of embezzling money in a fraudulent manner.” Let us tell you that Siddiq is a member of the UK Labor Cabinet, serving as the Economic Secretary of the Treasury and City Minister. The British newspaper on Sunday published a report titled – UK PM urges to sack Tulip Siddiq after Bangladesh PM’s rebuke.

According to the British newspaper, Yunus’ comments on the scandal involving 42-year-old Siddiq will increase pressure on him to resign. In such a situation, the British government is already looking for a replacement. In his interview, Yunus said that it was an irony that Siddiq was accused of corruption. He cited an official report that people associated with the Awami League regime had taken billions of dollars per year from Bangladesh, some of which was used to buy property abroad. Mohammad Yunus said, “This is not theft, because when you steal you hide the money. It is robbery.”

Yunus also said that if possible, the properties bought by Awami League allies should be returned to Bangladesh. He said that the goal of his officials is to recover cash and properties generated from Bangladeshi money stashed abroad.
