Gurtej Singh of Mattewada village of Ludhiana, Punjab has returned to his homeland and family after 24 years. There is an atmosphere of celebration on his return home. Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal has played an important role in bringing Gurtej to India.

Gurtej Singh, who became emotional, said that this is his second birth. He narrated the whole story of how he spent 24 years without family and what he suffered during this long period. He told that the travel agent had taken one lakh rupees from him to send him to Lebanon in 2001. Only he knows how he collected this one lakh in those days. When Gurtej Singh went to Lebanon, he was 33 years old. While staying in Lebanon, his passport was lost in 2006, which made it very difficult for him to return home.

He said that when he did not get his passport even after so many efforts, he had given up the hope of returning. The family members contacted Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal. He used his influence to contact the Ministry of External Affairs and made Gurtej Singh’s return possible. Gurtej Singh said that due to the efforts of Sant Seechewal, he was fortunate enough to kiss the soil of his village after 24 years.
