The opposition party said that if the Election Commission does not resolve the doubts raised in the ‘Vote for Democracy’ report, its leadership will decide on taking up the matter in other forums including the courts. Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, Congress leader Sandeep Dixit said that according to the analysis, there is an unusually large difference between the initially declared polling figures and the final figures, especially in some states like Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
Congress sought clarification in the matter
He said that there are at least 55-60 seats on which the revelations raise question marks and if they are removed from the BJP figures, one can imagine which alliance would have sworn in. The Congress leader said the Election Commission (EC) is a constitutional body, but if the work of a constitutional body directly affects democracy, it is its responsibility to clarify the situation.
Vote for Democracy released report
In a report released in Mumbai last month, Vote for Democracy (VFD) Maharashtra claimed significant discrepancies between voting and counting as well as a “significant unexplained increase” in polling percentage and said the Election Commission failed to address the issue.
Election Commission should take immediate action – Congress
The total increase in votes from the initial polling figures to the final figures is exactly 4,65,46,885, an increase of 3.2 per cent to 6.32 per cent in the seven phases of the election held between April 19 and June 1, the VFD had said in a release. The report sought “an independent investigation under autonomous supervision” into the allegations and demanded that the Election Commission of India take immediate action.
Analysis on Lok Sabha Election Results
An organization named Vote for Democracy has done an analysis on the results of the recently held Lok Sabha elections. According to the analysis, there is a difference between the figures declared in the initial phase and the final figures in the last phase. If there is a difference of 6% between the figures stated at the national level and the final figures, then were these results correct? The Election Commission gave the final figures several days after each phase. This is when it is said that there is nothing better than EVM, everything is known through EVM.
