A farmer was shot dead in village Jhall Thikriwal in Kapurthala late in the evening. According to the information received, the murder was done over a land dispute. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Civil Hospital of Kapurthala for post-mortem.
In this case, Kapurthala police has registered a case against Ratan Singh son of Atma Singh, resident of village Baltoha, Tarsem Singh son of Binder of Moga, Bagga Singh and his brother son Nahar Singh resident of village Jhal Thikriwal under various sections including murder, Arms Act.
This has been confirmed by DSP Sub-Division Deepkaran Singh. He told that today the post-mortem of the body of the deceased will be done by a panel of doctors.
Investigation officer of police station Kotwali Sub Inspector Balveer Kumar said – Late on Tuesday evening, there was a fight between the two parties in village Jhall Thikriwal over the ongoing land dispute. The matter escalated so much that one party started firing at the other party. In which 60-year-old farmer Jaspal Singh was shot. Jaspal was taken to the hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.
The deceased’s son Gurmukh Singh, a resident of village Sukhiya Nangal, told the police that he has taken 25 acres of land on contract from Tikri village for the last 8-9 years. In which he does farming. On October 22, in the afternoon, he along with his father Jaspal Singh had gone to see the fields in Jhal Thikriwal in his Volkswagen car (PB-08-DU-8818).
At that time, Ratan Singh, Tarsem Singh, Bagga Singh, his brother and an unknown person were standing there with the intention of occupying the land. The unknown person came near his car and shot his father. And all of them fled from the spot.
Farmer Jaspal Singh, who was injured by the bullet, was immediately brought to the civil hospital for treatment. Where the duty doctor declared him dead. Kapurthala police is searching for the murderers in the case.
