A young farmer in Dhaula village of Barnala, Punjab committed suicide due to debt. The deceased has been identified as Rupinder Singh. He was the only son of his family. Rupinder used to farm on three and a half acres of land. The family had a debt of Rs 15 lakh. He even sold half an acre of land to pay off the debt. But the debt did not reduce. Under this pressure, he became a victim of drug addiction.
The incident happened last evening. Rupinder was in his room. His mother was doing household work outside. When she went to serve tea, the door of the room was closed. When the people around broke the door and looked inside, Rupinder was hanging from the fan. Drug pills and syringes were also found near the body.
Father is a heart patient
The deceased’s uncle Baljinder Singh said that the family has a debt of Rs 15 lakh including society’s private and women’s loan. Rupinder’s father Baldev Singh is a heart patient. He returned from the hospital a few days ago. The mother and sister are inconsolable due to the death of their only son. The police have started investigating the case.
Some narcotic pills and a medical syringe have also been found near the deceased. It is suspected that the deceased Rupinder Singh used to consume drugs. The family of the deceased has also demanded the government to waive off the loan of 15 lakhs, so that the parents left behind can maintain themselves.
Police started investigating the case
In this case, SHO Gurmel Singh of Thana Rudke clan along with the police party have started investigating the case of the deceased. He said that legal action is being taken on the basis of the statement of the family of the deceased.
