The rural police have foiled a major terrorist plot planned for Independence Day in Punjab’s Amritsar district. Police seized a 690-gram IED. The IED was intended to target various police establishments. The recovered IED was found in a packet wrapped in black wax. An electronic detonator, battery, timer, and an iron box were also recovered. With the help of the bomb disposal squad, the police defused the explosive on the spot in accordance with established security protocols.
Police Statement
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the vigilance of the Amritsar rural police foiled the plot of anti-national elements and averted the potential threat. He stated that the matter is under investigation and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those behind the IED.
How was the breakthrough achieved?
SSP Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal stated that in view of Independence Day, blockades and checking had already been increased in the district. Special attention was also being paid to the security of government establishments. Meanwhile, on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, ASI Kulbir Singh was conducting night patrol in the Gaggomahan area. The team received information that a suspicious object was lying in the area. Immediately, the police team arrived at the scene and found a suspicious black, wax-coated package lying there. Upon examining the package, the officers discovered it to be an IED. It also contained an electronic detonator, battery, timer, and an iron box.
Explosive Destroyed
As soon as the information was received, the bomb disposal squad was called to the scene.
