The drug syndicate operating in Punjab from across the border has now changed its route. The drug mafia has now returned to the old route Jammu and Kashmir and Nepal used in the 90s to transport the drug consignment to Punjab. This has been revealed in the report of Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and Intelligence of Punjab Police.
Recently, the Special Punjab Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) had shared inputs with Punjab Police. It was told that due to the campaign being run by the Punjab government to curb drug smuggling, the supply of drugs by drones has decreased in the area of more than 530 km border of Punjab adjoining Pakistan.
If the BSF is to be believed, the supply of drugs by drones on the border has decreased by about 66 percent. This is because most of the drug smugglers are either in jail or have gone underground.
Old routes active again
As soon as the crackdown on drug smuggling in the border areas adjoining Pakistan has been tightened, the mafia has activated the old routes and syndicates. Punjab Police has now received inputs about drugs being brought to Punjab through Jammu-Kashmir and Nepal. In the 90s, terrorist organizations active in Jammu-Kashmir were used for the supply of drug consignments. Apart from this, drugs are being brought to Punjab again through Nepal through drug syndicates of Uttar Pradesh and Purvanchal. Many drug mafias, especially from Himachal and Uttarakhand, are also involved in the route of Jammu-Kashmir.
Another big thing has come to light in this report of Punjab Police that Pakistan and ISI have started delivering consignments of heroin, ice and other expensive drugs to the drug smugglers of Punjab for free.
