Amid the water dispute between Punjab and Haryana, the all-party meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ended in Punjab Bhawan. State BJP chief Sunil Jakhar, Daljit Cheema from Akali Dal and Tript Inder Singh Bajwa and Rana KP from Congress were present in the meeting. Tript Rajinder Bajwa of Congress told CM Mann in the meeting that the all-party delegation should take time and meet the PM on this water issue.
In a press conference after the meeting, CM Mann said that the issue of water was discussed for two hours in the all-party meeting. The CM said that BBMB was dictated. The decision to give water to Haryana was taken overnight. It was opposed in the all-party meeting. CM Mann said that the serious issue of water was discussed in the meeting rising above party lines.
The CM said that all party leaders agreed on their rights regarding the share of water. Some suggestions have been given, they will also be implemented. Proposals will be brought in the special session of the Assembly regarding the agreement and class of BBMB, deployment of officers, the share of Chandigarh administration. In the all-party meeting, there has been talk of taking time and meeting PM Narendra Modi.
The CM said that Jakhar is a resident of Tail, there is a lot of shortage of water there. CM Mann said that it is possible that the need for water has increased with time in Haryana too. In such a situation, the needs can be revised after May 20.
Akali Dal leader said – full support to the government
Akali leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar said that we are with the government. Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar said that the Punjab government is making a mountain out of a molehill… This issue could have been resolved easily through talks… Since there is drought from September to May, one or the other state uses more water and they are compensated for it… I told the Chief Minister to end this dispute and resolve this issue. The country is standing at such a juncture today where such unnecessary tension is inappropriate… I stand with Punjab and so does our party… Both sides have their own political compulsions…”
Recommendation of action against Punjab
In this new report, it has been recommended to take action against the Punjab government for not accepting the decision of giving additional water to Haryana by majority in the board meeting held late on Wednesday night. The BBMB chairman told Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal that deploying police at Nangal dam is a clear violation of the rules made at the time of formation of the board. A senior BBMB official said that Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal has called a meeting in this regard on Friday. BBMB chairman can also attend it.
Be it the Center or BBMB, anyone should take Punjab’s water: Mann
Meanwhile, Mann warned the Center and BBMB regarding the decision taken on water that anyone should take Punjab’s water. BBMB has tried to loot Punjab’s water by issuing a dictatorial order. On the basis of morality, Haryana should provide drinking water according to its population. 1700 cusecs of water is produced, despite this 4000 cusecs of water is being given to it. Now Haryana and BBMB have resorted to hooliganism, they have forgotten that Punjab has 60 percent share in BBMB. No one can take water bypassing Punjab.
CM Mann got influenced by Kejriwal’s words: Saini
Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini said that I am from an ordinary family and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also reached here from an ordinary family. Punjab is the land of Gurus. Centre can increase Haryana’s share
According to legal experts of BBMB’s water distribution, the central government can increase Haryana’s share of water from Bhakra. Apart from this, after the ban on Indus Water Treaty, special attention can be given to Haryana and other states in the water that will come from Chenab, Jhelum, Ujh and other rivers. Currently, out of the water that comes to Bhakra, Pong and Ranjit Sagar dams from Ravi, Beas and Sutlej rivers, Haryana gets water only from Bhakra Dam.
Haryana officer gets responsibility of water distribution in BBMB
Haryana cadre officer Sanjeev Kumar has got the important responsibility of water distribution from Nangal Dam. Punjab cadre officer Akashdeep Singh, who was handling this responsibility, has got the responsibility of security of Nangal Dam. This reshuffle has been implemented with immediate effect. According to the transfer order, Akashdeep Singh has been transferred on his application.
