The resignation of Banwari Lal Purohit, who has been in the news due to constant disputes with the Punjab government, has been accepted. After this, on Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that I did not force the former governor to resign, rather he is like my father. I had no personal fight with him. There was only a rift over the scope of selected and elected.
Mann said while talking to reporters at the CM residence on Sunday that whenever he met the governor, he used to touch his feet. The governor who is leaving the post tried to unnecessarily create obstacles in the smooth functioning of the Punjab government. It is unfortunate that the governor did not give approval to convene the budget session and later declared the session illegal to give approval. He had to go to the Supreme Court against all this.
The Chief Minister said that it is inappropriate for this to happen in a democratic country like India, but unfortunately all this is happening in the state. Both freedom and democracy are in danger, as the central government is leaving no stone unturned to harass and topple non-BJP ruled state governments. The voice of the opposition is being suppressed and even central agencies are being used as a weapon to silence their voice. Mann said that the new Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will take oath as Governor on July 31. During this, he will welcome him and work with him for the progress of Punjab. Mann said that I hope that he will protect the constitutional rights of both the government and the post of Governor.
In response to a question, CM Mann said that everyone campaigned for the Jalandhar West by-election and his wife Dr. Gurpreet Kaur was also included in it, but campaigning does not mean that she has to contest the election. There is no such intention right now. I and my family are always present in the service of the public.
Former Governor Purohit’s departure was accompanied by controversy. While talking to the media during his border visit, he had said that Chief Minister Mann does not like him, so I resigned from my post, which was not accepted. That is why I got back to my work. Mann also gave his reaction on this. The CM had said, ‘When I went to Jalandhar, my DGP and Chief Secretary were not with me. Then I came to know that he has gone to the border with the Governor. He takes away half of my government, but still remains unhappy with me. I have no personal animosity with him.’
