Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested by Vigilance from his house in Amritsar on Wednesday. The Vigilance team reached his residence at six in the morning. First, interrogation was done and in the afternoon Majithia was arrested.
A case has been registered against Majithia in Mohali Vigilance Police Station on the charge of having property more than income. The spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that during the investigation of the FIR, the SIT has found evidence of drug money and hawala business against Bikram Singh Majithia.
Bikram Singh Majithia collected property worth more than Rs 540 crore
Initial investigation has revealed that Bikram Singh Majithia has collected property worth more than Rs 540 crore. Majithia has made this property by using the influence of power while being a minister. There is a huge difference in the assets before and after becoming a minister. Vigilance has found important evidence during raids at different locations of Majithia. It is also alleged that cash transactions worth Rs 161 crore were deposited in the bank accounts of companies controlled by Majithia. In this case, every kind of transaction is being investigated by the Vigilance Bureau and the investigation done by the SIT clearly shows that these funds are related to the drug money deposited in the account of Saraya Industries controlled by Majithia.
There has been a huge expansion in movable and immovable properties
The spokesperson said that there has been a huge expansion in movable and immovable properties in the name of Majithia and his wife Ganive Kaur, for which no legitimate source of income has been presented. The investigation of this case is going on, in which more arrests and recoveries are likely.
Action taken against Majithia under these allegations
Preliminary investigation has revealed that drug money worth more than Rs 540 crore has been transacted in this case through several illegal means.
Large unaccounted cash of Rs 161 crore deposited in the bank accounts of companies controlled by Bikram Majithia.
Transactions of Rs 141 crore by suspicious foreign entities.
More deposits of Rs 236 crore without any information/explanation in the company’s financial statements.
Acquisition of movable and immovable property by Majithia without any legitimate source of income.
What happened when
The team reached Majithia’s mansion located at Green Avenue at around 6:30 am.
The team also reached Majithia’s wife MLA Ganiv Kaur’s residence at 10 am.
The team conducted a search operation till 12:30 pm and then arrested Majithia and took him away.
Vigilance filed an FIR against Majithia at 4:44 pm.
