The issue of reducing Z Plus security of senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia in Punjab has heated up. Majithia has adequate security, which includes escort vehicles and sufficient number of gunmen. Congress and BJP have objected to the reduction in security. At the same time, former SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal also reached Majithia’s residence on Wednesday to meet him.
Earlier, Majithia said that his security was withdrawn on Saturday night, but after the protest, the government is now clarifying that the security has only been reduced. Today, after three years, the government has remembered to review my security.
He said that Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant Bibhav Kumar has been given Z plus security. He is accused of molesting a party MP. Similarly, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia were also given security, whose names came up in the liquor scam. Both of them even had to go to jail. Similarly, Majithia has also raised questions on providing security to Vijay Nair and has sought a reply from AAP Punjab chief Aman Arora in this regard. Majithia said that the government should issue a written clarification regarding the security that I do not need it.
‘Security guard removed from my residence’
A month ago, a senior IPS officer visited his residence in Amritsar and suggested him to install more CCTV cameras and take other security measures to avoid any bomb or grenade attack.

Majithia was targeted because he was speaking against Mann: Sukhbir

He will fight strongly against the conspiracy to finish off the leadership of the Akali Dal. This was done without informing Majithia’s security in-charge. SAD will itself protect Majithia. A weak case was prepared in the attack on me, due to which the accused is roaming freely today.
SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s security has not been withdrawn, but only reduced. These changes have been made after the new recommendations of the security review committee. The security of any prominent person is reviewed from time to time based on the assessment of the potential threat. On this basis, the security cover is increased or reduced. It is not easy to present a chargesheet against Majithia in the drugs case
The fifth SIT has been formed in the drugs case against former Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia. The main focus of the new SIT will be to complete the investigation against Majithia and present the challan, but it will also have to face huge difficulties in this. It is not easy to present a chargesheet against Majithia.
Till now, senior officers have been the heads of the investigation team against Majithia. Now the junior officer has been given the command of the SIT. A case was registered against Majithia on December 20, 2021 under the NDPS Act, 1985.
The then Charanjit Singh Channi-led Congress government had constituted a three-member team led by AIG Balraj Singh for the investigation, which could not gather many witnesses and evidence in the case. In May 2023, IG Patiala Mukhwinder Singh Chhina was made the head of the SIT in place of DIG Rahul S, which included then AIG rank officers Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Raghbir Singh (DSP, STF, Rupnagar) and Amarpreet Singh (DSP, Kharar-2), while IG Gursharan Singh Sandhu was asked to monitor the progress of the investigation team. When Chhina was promoted to the post of Additional DGP, he continued to investigate the Majithia case as SIT chief till his retirement in December 2024.
Chhina retired seven months later. In January 2024, Harcharan Singh Bhullar was made the SIT chief. The three-member SIT included then Patiala SSP Varun Sharma and Dhuri SP Yogesh Sharma. The team had last questioned Majithia in March for more than eight hours daily for two days, after which the Supreme Court had directed Majithia to appear before the SIT probing the drugs case against him.

HS Bhullar has now been replaced. Actually, for the investigation, the SIT had to base its investigation on the statements of Satta, Pindi and Ladi and the mobile used by them and its forensic report, tower location, mobile call details, but the SIT failed to include it in the investigation. Satta and Pindi are residents of Canada. It is through them that Bikram Majithia’s name came up in this case.
