The conflict between Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has deepened over the removal of former Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib. Both the institutions have come face to face over sectarian issues. At the same time, there is a lot of anger in the Sikh community due to the sectarian conflict between SGPC and Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Till date, it has been discussed that SGPC has no authority over the appointment and retirement of Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and other Takht Sahibs. SGPC has the right to appoint and remove only the chief Granthi and other Granthis of Sri Harimandir Sahib, but the members of the SGPC executive met Giani Raghubir Singh on Friday and said that SGPC can remove Jathedars and has the right to appoint them. At the same time, the messages and statements of the Jathedar are not universal. SGPC also has the right to investigate the matter of Jathedars.
Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Raghbir Singh felt very bad on this statement of the members of the SGPC executive and in a press conference, he also disclosed the things said to him by the members of the SGPC executive. Due to which, anger has increased in the Sikh community against the Akali leadership as well as the group that dominates the SGPC.
Anger among the common people against the members
From the beginning till today, the same voice has been raised that the SGPC arbitrarily appoints and removes the Jathedars of the three Takht Sahibs under its management at will. Therefore, rules should be made regarding the appointment and retirement of the Jathedars of the Takht Sahibs. Till date, the SGPC has neither made any rules on this nor has it made it public that according to the Gurdwara Act, the SGPC has the right to remove and appoint a Jathedar. Due to this, the anger of the common people against the members of the SGPC Executive Committee has started to come out openly on social media. If this continues, then in the coming days, the conflict between the SGPC and the Jathedars of Takht Sahibs will increase further.
