Amid protests from Nihang organisations, Giani Kuldeep Singh’s turbaning as Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib was done at around 2.50 pm on Sunday night.

Now Nihang groups have also come out in protest against the removal of Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Kesgarh Sahib. This has deepened the Panthic dispute. The Nihang groups have unitedly passed a resolution that the turbaning ceremony of any new Jathedar appointed by the SGPC will not be allowed. They will oppose it. In the resolution, the groups said that the SGPC has appointed two Jathedars without the approval of the Sikh groups and the consent of the Sikh Sangat.

Rules should be made for the appointment and retirement of Jathedars

Buddha Dal general secretary Diljit Singh Bedi said that Buddha Dal chief Baba Balbir Singh Akali 96 Crori has said that fifteen to twenty years ago, there is a demand to formulate rules regarding the appointment and retirement of Jathedars with the consent of the Khalsa Panth. Why were rules not made in this regard? Deliberate sidelining is a matter that keeps the Panth in confusion. Regarding the method that has been adopted, all the Nihang Singh organizations have jointly decided that no new Jathedar will be accepted. No one will be allowed to wear a turban.

He said that the decision to pardon Gurmeet Singh Ram Rahim was also wrong, then it was withdrawn by the Shiromani Committee due to community opposition. Therefore, we collectively demand that the decision to remove the Jathedars be withdrawn immediately. Jathedars Raghbir Singh and Sultan Singh should be allowed to serve in Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib and Sri Anandpur Sahib as before. He said that they will not allow the coronation of any new Jathedar. He demanded that the SGPC Executive immediately withdraw this decision. The decision of the Executive has shamed the entire Sikh community and has created confusion within the community.
