104 Indian citizens declared illegal immigrants in the US were sent back to India. These include Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Puranpur in Pilibhit. He reached the US border via the Donkey Route after taking a loan of Rs 22 lakh, but was caught by the army there. Gurpreet, a resident of village Banjaria, told his entire story on Thursday during police interrogation. The police team that brought him from Delhi handed him over to his family after interrogation. Gurpreet told that he was kept in a detention camp in the US for 22 days. During this time, he was given food but was not allowed to take a bath.
Took a loan of Rs 22 lakh
He met an Indian man in England. He promised to take him to the US via the Donkey Route. For this, his brother took a loan and arranged Rs 22 lakh. The person who sent him to the US via the Donkey Route got him a tourist visa for Spain in December 2024. From Spain to Mexico, he was made to walk for several kilometers through rugged, deserted forest paths.
Her phone was snatched at gunpoint, then broken
Those who sent him to America through the Donkey route snatched his mobile at gunpoint and broke it. He was taken to the US border on 13 January 2025. As soon as he entered the US border, he was caught by the army there. He was kept in a detention camp in America for 22 days. After this, according to the list of Indians who entered America illegally, everyone was brought to Goa by plane with handcuffs on their hands and shackles on their feet and from there to Amritsar by plane. Gurpreet told that during this time he was given food, but was not allowed to bathe for 22 days.
Mother was eager to meet her son
Gurpreet had called his brother posted in the army 22 days ago and informed him about reaching America. After this, he was not able to contact his family. His mother Jaswinder Kaur was worried as she could not talk to her son. Jaswinder Kaur was sad since Wednesday when she got to know that he was caught in America and brought back to India.
Returned empty handed after spending lakhs
On getting to know about Gurpreet’s return home, his relatives and close ones gathered at his house. Gurpreet, who reached England by spending Rs. 15 lakh and America by donkey route by spending Rs. 22 lakh, returned to India empty handed and looked dejected. His father Gurmeet was also dejected and sad. Police interrogated Gurpreet for more than two and a half hours. After this, he was handed over to his father.
American soldiers behaved well, put shackles due to fear
Gurpreet Singh said that after being caught, the behavior of American soldiers was good towards other people except Haryana. The soldiers were calling the people of Haryana uncivilized because of their language. He told that handcuffs were put on his hands and feet because the number of soldiers was less. The people caught might attack them.
