The Punjab government has appointed Jasbir Singh Garhi as the Chairman of the Scheduled Caste Commission. Orders have been issued by the Social Justice Empowerment and Minority Department in this regard. He joined the Aam Aadmi Party under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Mann on January 1, two months ago.

During the Delhi elections, he campaigned for the party as a volunteer for a month in Seemapuri Assembly, which led to the victory of Aam Aadmi Party there.

Jasbir Garhi is considered a prominent leader of the Dalit community of Punjab. He was the Punjab President of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for 6 years. Under his leadership, BSP succeeded in winning the MLA from Nawanshahr after 25 years. Jasbir Singh Garhi is especially known for raising his voice against the atrocities on the poor and Dalits. His new responsibility is being considered very important in Punjab.

4 months ago, on 5 November 2024, BSP had expelled Jasbir Singh Garhi. At that time he was the head of the party. He has been shown the way out of the party on charges of indiscipline. The party has appointed Avtar Singh Karimpuri as the new head in his place. However, Jasbir Singh Garhi was handling the responsibility of BSP chief since 2019.

The assembly elections were contested in the year 2022 under his chairmanship. In this election, the party had formed an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). It was under his chairmanship that BSP General Secretary Nachhatar Pal Singh won from Nawanshahr. At the same time, he himself contested the assembly elections from Phagwara. He stood third with 31232 votes (24.41%).
