Lawrence Bishnoi Interview—DGP Prabodh Kumar will continue the investigation despite retirement.

DGP Prabodh Kumar, head of the SIT investigating the police officers accused in the Lawrence Bishnoi interview in police custody, will continue the investigation despite retirement. The Punjab-Haryana High Court has ordered the Punjab government to provide him security, staff and Rs 1.5 lakh per month. DGP Prabodh Kumar has agreed to continue this investigation.

The High Court took suo motu cognizance of the security arrangements in the jail and started the hearing. During this time, the matter of Lawrence’s TV interview came to light. The High Court had ordered the Punjab government to form an SIT and investigate. The SIT investigation was inconclusive, after which an SIT was formed under the chairmanship of DGP Prabodh Kumar on the orders of the High Court.

The SIT had told that the interview was held at Kharar CIA police station. After this, action was taken against many police officers, but the High Court had strongly reprimanded the Punjab government for not taking action against the SSP. The High Court had also handed over the responsibility of investigation against the guilty officers to the SIT. The High Court was told that the head of the SIT, DGP Prabodh Kumar, is going to retire this month. The High Court had ordered the Punjab government to submit the name of such a DGP by Thursday who is empanelled by the Central Government.

During the hearing on Thursday, the High Court issued an order to DGP Prabodh Kumar to continue the investigation of the case. The High Court said that the government’s SIT had failed even after 9 months of investigation, whereas the SIT formed by the High Court under the chairmanship of Prabodh Kumar has done an excellent investigation and exposed important aspects of the case in just four-five months.
