A horrific accident took place in Pathar Pratima in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Monday night. A gas cylinder exploded in a house here, due to which seven people died. Sundarban Police District SP Koteshwar Rao said that the dead also included four children and two women. He said that the deceased probably belonged to the same family.
He also informed that a woman was also injured in the explosion that took place at around 9 pm in Dholaghat village of Pathar Pratima block. All the bodies have been recovered. The injured woman has been admitted to the hospital, where her treatment is going on.
SP Koteshwar Rao gave information and said that there were two gas cylinders in the house. We suspect that the fire spread after the firecrackers kept inside caught fire and the cylinder exploded. At present, the situation is under control and the rescue operation has been completed. The area has been cordoned off. Investigation is going on regarding the accident. Another officer said that we are also finding out whether firecrackers were made inside the house or not.
