Phagwara residents will get their mayor today. After the elections for the post of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor were postponed on 25 January, the Commissioner of Jalandhar Division had issued a notice in this regard that the meeting of councillors will be held again on 1 February at 4 pm in the auditorium of Municipal Corporation, Phagwara, located at the backside of PWD Rest House.
In this, first of all, the councillors of ward number 12 and 13 will also be administered the oath of allegiance to the Constitution and after that the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected. After the oath taking by the councillors on 25 January, the elections were postponed due to the uproar in the meeting and the Congress had filed a petition in the High Court terming the entire incident as murder of democracy. During the hearing of the same petition, while the High Court had made a strong comment on the Divisional Commissioner of Jalandhar for not being able to conduct the elections on 25 January, Justice Harbans Lal was appointed as the election observer.
