Balveer Singh, born in Punjab, has become the first Sikh MLA in the history of the New Jersey Legislature. United Sikhs, an organization associated with the United Nations, has congratulated him on becoming an MLA.
Before being elected to the Assembly, Balveer Singh was working on the Burlington Township Board of Education (2015-2017). He was then elected to the Burlington County Board of Commissioners. As a commissioner, he played an important role in promoting affordable housing, economic development and public health reforms. His efforts led to the launch of a rental assistance scheme worth more than $13 million.
Zero-interest loans were made available to businesses and a 60-bed emergency shelter home was built, which helped the needy. Balveer Singh was born in Hoshiarpur. He moved to the US with his family at the age of 14. There he studied at Burlington City High School.
