A youth from Phagwara is also among the 30 people from Punjab deported from America (US). The only brother of 4 sisters went to America through illegal means (donkey route) to fulfill his sweet dreams of earning dollars. The youth had paid 45 lakh rupees to the agent. It took him 7 months to reach America. But when he reached the US border, he was deported and sent back to Punjab after just 9 days.
Jaskaran Singh’s father Joga Singh is a farmer from Nanak Nagari Chahedu village of Phagwara. Jaskaran Singh used to do farming with his father earlier. Under the influence of the agent, it was decided to send him to America through donkey for 45 lakh rupees. Jaskaran told that the agent sent him from here to Dubai on 29th July. He stayed in Dubai for 3 months and from there crossed the US border on 25th January after passing through different countries.
He passed through these countries
During this time he reached Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico via South Africa, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Panama. After that he crossed the US border. He was caught on the border on 25 January and the police there sent him to jail. On 3 February Jaskaran was handcuffed along with other Indians and was sent to India by plane.
Survived by eating biscuits and chips
Jaskaran told that to reach America he travelled in some or the other vehicle in other countries. He walked on foot for 3 days in the jungle of Panama. During this time there was not much to eat. He survived by eating biscuits and chips.
