As part of the campaign launched against drugs in Punjab, Amritsar District Urban Police has arrested four smugglers. The police have recovered a consignment of four kg heroin from the arrested smugglers. Along with this, drug money worth Rs 20,000 and three motorcycles have also been recovered. A minor is also among the arrested accused. The accused include Tarsem Singh alias Sema, Amrit Singh resident of Jalalabad, Ramanjit Singh resident of Tarn Taran and the fourth accused is a minor.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that secret information was received that the three arrested accused smugglers used to import consignments of heroin from Pakistan via drones from Ferozepur sector. Among them, the minor accused works as a boatman and he was being continuously used by the other three accused.
The consignment of heroin was dropped in the fields of a village near the border near the Sutlej river through drones from Pakistan. After this, the minor accused goes to the Sutlej river with his boat and receives the consignment and brings it back by keeping it in the boat. After this, the other three accused used to supply it.
The CIA staff had received information that the accused had come to Amritsar on Monday to deliver the consignment of heroin. The accused were riding motorcycles. They were caught by blockading and the consignment of heroin and drug money were recovered on the spot.
The Police Commissioner said that till now most of the consignments were being sent from the Amritsar sector. But now Pakistani smugglers have also become active from the Ferozepur border. At the same time, the case of bringing and taking consignment in a boat has also come to light for the first time. At present, interrogation of the accused is going on. So that more recovery can be done.
