Amritsar Commissionerate Police has achieved a major breakthrough by busting a terror and extortion module of Pakistan’s ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Two associates of active BKI operative Jeevan Fauji, Karjpreet Singh, a resident of Verowal, Tarn Taran and Gurlal Singh alias Harman, a resident of Goindwal Sahib, have been arrested in the operation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Jeevan Fauji was running an extortion racket by targeting individuals in border districts of Punjab. He had provided .30 bore pistol to Karjpreet and Gurlal and directed them to open fire at a furniture shop in Amritsar. The firing was part of an extortion attempt in which Jeevan Fauji had demanded ransom from the shop owner’s Canada-based relative.
The police launched an operation to recover the weapon used in the crime based on the disclosure of Gurlal Singh alias Harman. During this, the accused tried to fire on the police team, in response to which the police also opened fire. In this encounter, Gurlal was shot in his left leg, and he was immediately admitted to the Civil Hospital in Amritsar. The police have registered an FIR in this case and investigation is going on to completely eliminate this terrorist network.
