A major blow has been dealt to an international drug cartel and hawala operators through an ongoing war against drugs. Commissionerate Police, Amritsar, during backward and forward link investigation, arrested 5 accused and recovered ₹46.91 lakhs in drug money.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
1. Rajanjot Singh alias Rajan S/O Jatinder Singh R/O Kamla Avenue, Fatehgarh Churian Road, Amritsar
2. Gurpreet Singh alias Gora S/O Satnam Singh R/O village Mahwa, District Amritsar Rural
3. Harmeet Singh S/O Balwinder Singh R/O Sadar Quarters, Amritsar
4. Navjot Singh S/O Gurjeet Singh R/O Max City, Ram Tirath Road, Amritsar
5. Anil Saini S/O Dilbag Saini R/O Jagat Colony, Bhawani, Haryana
Anil Saini, from Haryana, was running a hawala network under the cover of a dry fruit business.
During this Hawala Money network, the accused used to exchange money by taking a photo of rupees 10 or 20 note numbers and verifying the photo through social media apps.
During the investigation, police successfully dismantled the nexus between narcotics and hawala money. Earlier in this case, Satnam Singh alias Sandhu S/O Sardar Singh R/O village Chhidan, PS Lopoke, District Amritsar Rural, aged 26, was arrested on 09-04-2024 with 1 kg heroin. On his disclosure, Rajanjot Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Anil Saini were arrested.Further investigation led to the arrest of two more associates, Navjot Singh and Harmit Singh, based on disclosures by Gurpreet Singh.
The arrested accused Anil Saini, Navjot Singh, and Harmit Singh were found to be in contact with US-based drug smuggler Joban Kaler and Gangster Gopi Chougawan. A case under FIR No. 65 dated 09.04.2025 U/S 21C of the NDPS Act has been registered at PS Chheharta, Amritsar.
