Said- genuine demands fulfilled by the Punjab Government.
SNE NEWS.Amritsar
Under the banner of (PFUCTO), the Chain Hunger Strike at Punjab University campus has entered its 6th day today (10-09-21). It is very painful that teachers who are nation builders have to resort to hunger strike to get their genuine demands fulfilled by the Punjab Government.
Pay scales of teachers working in universities and colleges across the country are revised and recommended by the UGC. The 7th UGC pay scales have already been implemented by all the states except the state of Punjab and Himachal. Himachal has not implemented 7th UGC pay scales as it follows Punjab.
The non-implementation of 7th ugc pay scale by the Punjab Government exposes the truth about the false claims of the government about its commitment towards education in Punjab. How can one imagine educational institutes without faculty? Without competitive pay it is impossible to attract and retain competent faculty. But the government has been tacitly withdrawing its financial support to kill the public sector health and education system to promote the private sector.
The attitude of the Punjab Government is highly condemnable. Today, five representatives of Guru Nanak Dev University Teachers Association, Amritsar, i.e., Professor Lakhwinder Singh, President; Professor NPS Saini, Secretary; Dr Davinder Singh, Dr Jatinder Kumar and Dr Maninder Pal Singh, sat on the fast from 9:00 am-5:00 pm in front of Main Guest House, PU. GNDUTA expressed its anguish at the inordinate delay on the part of the Punjab Government to implement the 7th UGC pay scales.
All the constituents of (PFUCTO) would participate in the Chain Fast at the same venue on a rotation basis till all demands are met by the Punjab Government. A large number of teachers and students visited the Dharna site to show solidarity with the protesting teachers.
