Jalandhar West By Election 2024: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has suffered a major setback for the Jalandhar by-election. SAD candidate Bibi Surjit Kaur has said goodbye to the party. Bibi Surjit Kaur left SAD and joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday. It is believed that she has left the party due to internal rift in SAD. Because there is a ruckus in SAD at this time and the party is divided into two factions. Earlier, Shiromani Akali Dal had made Surjit Kaur its candidate from Jalandhar West seat. However, the other faction of SAD was not in favor of Bibi Surjit Kaur. Surjit Kaur has been a councilor twice. She is the wife of late Jathedar Pritam Singh.
On Tuesday, Bibi Surjit Kaur left SAD and joined AAP. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inducted Bibi Surjit Kaur into AAP by making her wear the party’s turban. Surjit Kaur reached Bhagwant Mann’s house in Jalandhar with her supporters, where she was inducted into the party.

BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and Shiromani Akali Dal had fielded their candidates for the Jalandhar West by-election. Congress has given ticket to Surinder Kaur, while BJP has made Sheetal Angural its candidate. Apart from this, Aam Aadmi Party has made Mohinder Bhagat its candidate. SAD had expressed confidence in Surjit Kaur, but now she has left the party and joined AAP.
