The marriage of a minor girl has been revealed in Punjab. This child marriage took place in Bhulath, Kapurthala. In this case, on the orders of the Child Protection Department, a case has been registered against the minor’s husband and 7 baraatis who attended the wedding.
According to the information, a minor resident of Bhulath, who is originally from Hoshiarpur, had called Child Helpline 1098 on September 5. The minor has lodged a complaint of her child marriage. The minor accused some people of village Kamrai of Bhulath that on June 20, 2023, she was forcibly married to Karamjit Singh son of Lakhwinder Singh. Karamjit Singh was also a minor at that time.
At the same time, in the complaint given by the victim girl and her mother on Child Helpline number 1098, action was demanded against the accused. The girl’s mother said that at the time of marriage, her daughter was only 13 years and 7 months old. Her groom Karamjit Singh was also a minor at the time of marriage.
