In Moga, Punjab, a man set himself on fire by sprinkling petrol on himself. The man was badly burnt by the fire. The man is a drug addict and did this act after getting chitta (drugs). The incident took place in Dharam Singh Nagar of Moga city.
According to the information, Sukhdev Singh (38) was quarreling with his family on Monday morning. He was asking money from his wife for drugs. When his wife refused to give him money, he got angry and sprinkled petrol on himself and set himself on fire. The incident took place around 8 am. The family members present at home extinguished the fire by putting blankets and water and immediately took the injured Sukhdev Singh to Moga Civil Hospital. Sukhdev Singh has suffered 80 percent burns, due to which the doctors have referred him to Faridkot Medical College after seeing his critical condition.
Sukhdev’s wife, who was burnt in the fire, said that her husband has been addicted to chitta (synthetic drugs) for a long time. Due to addiction, he has sold all the household items and asks for money every day to buy drugs. He also beats up the family if he does not get money. On Monday also, when the family refused to give him money to buy drugs, he first quarreled and then poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire. The wife raised an alarm and extinguished the fire.
Regarding this matter, councilor and Moga Municipal Corporation Mayor Baljit Singh Channi said that on Monday morning, 38-year-old Sukhdev Singh, a resident of the ward, poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire. As soon as he got information about the incident, he immediately reached the spot and took the victim to the hospital. He said that Sukhdev Singh has been addicted to drugs for a long time and even after getting treatment several times, he could not give up the habit. His wife runs the house by doing hard work, but the husband’s addiction to drugs has increased the trouble of the entire family.
