An explosion took place in a firecracker factory in Muktsar, Punjab late on Thursday night. 5 workers died. 33 people have been rescued from the rubble. Rescue and relief operations are underway. The injured have been sent to Bathinda AIIMS.A total of 40 people worked in the factory. The injured workers are said to be from Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place at 1.30 am in Singhewala village. Worker Arun, who works here, said, “We were sleeping after the night shift, when suddenly there was an explosion and many people were buried under the rubble. The explosion was so strong that a large part of the factory building collapsed.”

DC Abhijeet Kaplish said that no permission was given by the administration to run the firecracker factory.

Muktsar SSP Akhil Chaudhary said that the police had received information in the morning. Initial investigation revealed that there were two setups here. On one side crackers were being made, on the other side they were being packed. At night the crackers caught fire and there was an explosion. This caused the building to collapse. Some workers were working then. According to the local people, the factory was a two-storey one. There were some rooms on the first floor. Arrangements were made for all the workers to stay in the factory itself.

The factory operator did not reach the spot

The name of the cracker factory operator is being told as Tarsem Singh. The factory operator has not reached the spot yet. The documents of the factory have also not been found yet. The police is gathering information. The police say that only after the factory operator arrives will it be known whether it has documents or not. Strict action will be taken on this too. Action will also be taken against the factory operator. Statements of the injured have not been recorded yet.

Majithia said- give immediate compensation to the families of the deceased

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia said that the news of 4 workers dying and others getting injured due to the blast in the firecracker factory is very sad. We demand from the administration that this matter should be investigated in depth. The families of the deceased should be given immediate compensation and the injured should be treated at government expense.

Team went from Dabwali for rescue and relief work

After the blast in the factory, members of Shah Satnam Ji Green S Welfare Committee from Dabwali of Sirsa have reached for rescue work. Relief and rescue work is going on.
