After 52.32 hours of the uproar over the sudden checking of the girls’ hostel by the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Rajiv Gandhi National Law University (RGNUL) located in Patiala, Punjab and the comment made on her clothes, the state government has also woken up. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has taken cognizance of this matter.

He has summoned a report in this regard from the Registrar of the University. He also said that I assure the students that justice will be done. On the other hand, former Union Ministers Shashi Tharoor and Karuna Nandi have also come forward regarding this matter. They said that this matter should be investigated. Until the investigation is completed, the VC should be removed from the post.

The Education Minister has written this in the post

The Education Minister had posted a post on his social media account X on Tuesday night. In this, he has written that the Higher Education Department has summoned a report from the Registrar of RGNUL, Patiala regarding the ongoing protest of the students. I assure the students that justice will be done. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains ordered an inquiry into the matter.

The Vice Chancellor does not know the constitutional right to privacy

Former Union Minister and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that it is sad to read that RGNUL of Patiala has been closed at a time when the students have demanded the resignation of the Vice Chancellor. Because earlier the VC of the university conducted a surprise inspection of the girls’ hostel to “check drinking after midnight”. Made derogatory remarks on women. It is shocking that the Vice Chancellor of a law university is not fully aware of the constitutional right to privacy of his students. The government should immediately appoint an inquiry commission, and the Vice Chancellor should step down from the post till its findings are released. He also shared the media news.

If the allegations are true, then they are horrific

Supreme Court senior lawyer Karuna Nandy has said in a social media post that if the allegations against the Vice Chancellor of RGNUL are true, then they are horrific. An inquiry committee should be formed immediately, while the Vice Chancellor should be asked to take interim leave. Karuna Nandy has put forth her views about the Law University through her social media account. Know the whole matter in a sequential manner.

Suddenly, the students started protesting in front of the VC residence

On Sunday (September 22) at around 3:30 pm, the students of the Law University suddenly started protesting in front of the VC residence. They alleged that the Vice Chancellor suddenly checks the girls’ hostel. He comments on the clothes they wear. This is a violation of their right to privacy.

The students had reached here with posters of ‘Not Your Daughter’. This protest continued throughout the night. The VC did not talk to the media at that time but the university registrar Professor Anand Panwar denied the allegations of the students. He said that if they have any problem then they should tell the university administration.

Inspector Jaswinder Singh, in-charge of Bakshiwala police station, said that he did not receive any complaint, so the investigation was not started.

The protest continued all night, the university administration formed a committee

By Monday, other students also joined the girls and they sat on the protest all night. They set up a permanent front in front of the university administration. Seeing the situation worsening, the university administration formed a 9-member committee. The committee asked the girls to come to the admin block at 2:45 pm on Monday and record their statements.

They have described this incident as horrific by posting on social media. Along with this, they have demanded an investigation into this matter. Even though the university has been closed till further orders. But the students are still standing on the fourth day. The education minister has written and asked for a report.

Seeing the situation deteriorating, the university was closed

Seeing the matter deteriorating, the university administration issued a notice. In which, citing the welfare of the students, the university was ordered to be closed with immediate effect. It was also said that the students who want to go home can go. However, the students said that this protest will not be ended until their demands are met.

The VC said – had gone to investigate the complaint

According to media reports, VC JS Singh said in this matter that complaints were received about keeping more girls than the capacity in the girls hostel and smoking and drinking alcohol in the girls hostel after midnight. He had gone to the hostel to investigate it.

The Vice Chancellor said in the conversation that complaints were received about girls who do not smoke and drink alcohol. They said that all these programs start after 12 o’clock at night. They order all these things from outside under the guise of food. I had gone to check with the female warden and well-behaved students.

He said that some students of every batch are protesting. The rest continued studying in the classroom. I did not comment on anyone’s clothes. These are false allegations being made by some selected students.
