FRESH UPDATE—241 out of 242 people on board the plane died, only one passenger survived

Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon. There were 242 people on board, including 12 crew members. So far, only one passenger has survived the accident. All the rest have died.

Indian-origin British citizen Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, sitting on seat number 11-A of the plane, has survived the accident. His video has also surfaced. Earlier, news agency ANI had quoted the Police Commissioner as saying that another person is being treated in the hospital. A little while ago, AP had said that all the people on board the plane had died.

Air India flight number AI-171 was going from Ahmedabad to London. There were a total of 230 passengers on board, including 169 Indians, 53 British, 7 Portuguese and a Canadian citizen. There are 103 men, 114 women, 11 children and 2 newborns. The remaining 12 were crew members.

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has also died in the accident. The building with which the plane collided houses doctors of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. According to information, 50 to 60 doctors were present in the building at the time of the accident, more than 15 of them have been injured.

Most of the bodies found at the accident site have been so badly burnt that it is very difficult to identify them. Their identification will be possible only after DNA test.

Shah said – 1000 DNA tests will have to be done to identify the dead.

Home Minister Amit Shah said – 241 out of 242 people on board the plane have died, they will be identified through DNA test. DNA of the relatives of all the passengers is being taken. Information has been given to the relatives living abroad. DNA of the bodies has been taken. More than 1000 DNA tests will be done. Gujarat has the capacity to conduct such a large number of tests.

Boeing’s 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft is known for its fuel efficiency and comfortable travel. However, questions have been raised about its safety. After flaws were found in it, its fleet was banned from flying worldwide for 3 months.

Air India Express plane crashed in 2020, 21 died
