A government employee in West Bengal attacked at least four of his colleagues with a knife for not getting leave. Officials said on Thursday that the accused has been identified as Amit Kumar Sarkar. He used to work in the Technical Education Department of Karigaari Bhavan in Newtown area of ​​​​Kolkata. Sarkar attacked his colleagues with a knife and then roamed around the city with the weapon.

A video of him roaming around the city with a blood-soaked knife in his hand has surfaced. In this, he is seen roaming in broad daylight with a bag on his back and another bag in his hand. Some passersby can be seen making a video of the accused on their mobile phones. During this, Sarkar is asking people not to come near him and scaring them.

A senior police officer said, ‘Sarkar, a resident of Ghola in Sodepur in North 24 Parganas district, works in the Technical Education Department. After a quarrel with his colleagues over leave on Thursday morning, he attacked them with a knife and tried to escape.’

Two in critical condition

According to the police, the injured have been identified as Jaydev Chakraborty, Santunu Saha, Sartha Late and Sheikh Satabul, who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two of them are said to be in critical condition.

Reason for not granting leave not yet known

According to the police, the accused had a quarrel with his colleagues over the issue of leave. However, the reason for not granting him leave is not yet known. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway, officials said. Police also suspect that the man was suffering from a mental health problem.
