Sanjay Rai, accused in the trainee doctor’s death case at RG Kar Hospital, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. On which West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed dissatisfaction. She said that this was a rarest of rare crime, in which the culprit should have been sentenced to death. Reacting to the verdict in the RG Kar case on Monday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that the Bengal government will approach the High Court demanding Sanjay Rai’s death penalty.
Mamata Banerjee termed it a heinous crime and said that she is still adamant on demanding the death penalty for the culprit. Mamata wrote on the X handle, the court did not consider the incident of rape and murder of a junior doctor as a rarest of rare crime. I am shocked to see this. I think this is a rarest of rare crime, in which the death penalty should be given. After all, why was this case not considered a rarest of rare crime. After this, calling the matter ‘sensitive’, she demanded the highest punishment of hanging.
