SENIOR JOURNALIST.NATIONAL DESK.
India on Wednesday successfully test fired indigenously developed vertically-launched short-range surface-to-air missile (VLSRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha. The test was conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy.
In the test, the missile destroyed a high-speed aerial target from a land-based vertical launcher at very close range and low altitude. During this flight test, the missile demonstrated high speed and agility required to completely destroy the target.
Elements such as indigenous radio frequency seeker, multi-function radar and weapon control system were also used in the test of the missile system, which were fully successful in their tasks. The performance of the test was confirmed from the flight data captured by various range instruments by the ITR.
On this successful test by India, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, Indian Navy and other related teams. He called it an example of India’s strong defense research and development capabilities. He also said that this would be an important technological boost for the Indian Navy. Also, Secretary of the Department of Defense Research and Development, Dr. Sameer V Kamat also congratulated all the teams for this successful flight test. He said that this missile will technically strengthen the armed forces.
It is worth noting that before the test of the missile, about 3200 residents of six villages around Chandipur were shifted to shelter centers for security reasons. Also, fishermen were also warned not to go to sea. This test is an important step in India’s indigenous defense technology and promotes self-reliance in India’s defense sector.
