Two students and parents have sought permission to offer namaz in the school premises run by the church. The school management has strongly objected to the demand of the students and parents.
Students and their parents at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Pangottur demanded space to offer namaz inside the school premises. On this, the school principal said that they cannot allow public display of religious rituals inside the institution. He said that Muslim students can use the time allotted for their religious rituals on Friday as per the Kerala Education Rules (KER).
At the same time, the students and parents also sought permission to go out and offer namaz every day during school hours, citing security and discipline of the institution. This was also rejected by the principal.
