The businessman shot his wife. The injured woman was identified as Anjali Kaushal (53). The accused committed the crime under the influence of alcohol. Initial investigation revealed that after the loss in business, the accused Varinder Kaushal, resident of Radha Enclave Khanna, was mentally disturbed and was often forcing his wife to live separately by quarreling at home. He opened fire over this matter.
According to the information, Varinder Kaushal had Sumitra Gas Agency on Amloh Road some time ago. But after the loss in business, Varinder Kaushal started getting very upset. Varinder’s daughter lives in Canada. Some time ago Varinder Kaushal and his wife Anjali Kaushal had gone to Canada to meet their daughter. Both had come back to Khanna these days and lived in Radha Enclave. On Wednesday, there was a shraddh at Anjali Kaushal’s maternal home in Krishna Nagar.
Anjali came to her home on Wednesday night. At around 12:30 in the night, Anjali called her parents’ house and said that Varinder Kaushal was abusing her. He was beating her. When Anjali’s siblings came there from Krishna Nagar, they saw that Varinder Kaushal was firing from a 12 bore gun. First he fired in the air. Then seeing them, Varinder Kaushal shot Anjali. Varinder fled from the spot with the gun. They took Anjali to the Civil Hospital, from where Anjali was referred to Chandigarh. But they took Anjali to DMC Ludhiana.
Anjali’s brother Krishna Murthy Menon said that his brother-in-law Varinder Kaushal used to force his wife to live separately. He used to quarrel often.
Khanna DSP Amritpal Singh Bhati said that as soon as they got the information, police teams immediately reached the spot. The accused had fled from the spot. On the complaint of Varinder Kaushal’s brother-in-law Krishna Murthy Menon, the police registered a case under Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act and arrested the accused.
