The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Ludhiana’s Women’s Cell, Bekshaka Kaur and her reader Beant Singh, on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
An official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the two police personnel have been arrested based on the complaint of Pritpal Kumar, a resident of Gaudha village in Bathinda district.
The complainant had told in the complaint given to Vigilance that five years ago his maternal uncle Ashwani Kumar was married to a girl from Ludhiana. After the marriage, the relationship between the two deteriorated and his wife filed a complaint against him in the Women’s Cell, Ludhiana.
During the investigation of the complaint, the above accused Reader Beant Singh introduced him to the female ACP. The reader told the complainant that if he wanted to file a complaint against Ashwani Kumar, he would have to pay a bribe of one lakh rupees. Later the deal was finalized in 60 thousand rupees.
The complainant took Rs 30 as the first installment on 29th July in the presence of Reader Beant Singh ACP Behzak Kaur. The balance was asked to be paid on August 1. The complainant filed a complaint with the vigilance against the accused along with the evidence. The vigilance team then laid a trap and in the presence of two government witnesses, the two were arrested while trying to collect the second installment of Rs 30,000 bribe from the complainant.
