In Muktsar, a person was killed in a dispute over setting up a Congress party booth outside his house on June 1. On the day of polling, the Sarpanch had threatened two brothers belonging to the Congress and on the day of counting, on June 4, late in the evening, he attacked the house of the party belonging to the Congress party. In which a Congress worker died during treatment on Wednesday. While his brother is also seriously injured. In this case, the police have registered a case against 14 people including the Sarpanch.
In a statement given to the police, Gurjant Singh, son of deceased Gurmeet Singh (50), resident of Kakkhanwali, said that Sarpanch Dalip Ram first attacked his house on the day of counting late in the evening. Then when he was taking his father and uncle to Civil Hospital Lambi for treatment, he was surrounded and beaten again on the way. Due to which his father died in the hospital.
According to Gurmeet Singh, he works as a laborer. On June 1, the day of Lok Sabha elections, a booth was set up by the Congress party in front of his uncle Manjit Ram’s house. During this time, the Sarpanch of the village associated with AAP, Dalip, came and asked his uncle Manjit Ram and father Gurmeet Ram not to set up a Congress booth at the said place. Also, he threatened them of dire consequences if the booth was not removed.
On the evening of June 4, around 6:30 pm, his father Gurmeet Ram was sitting in his uncle’s house. Meanwhile, Sarpanch Dalip Singh along with his 14 companions entered his house with sharp weapons and attacked him lethally. Sarpanch Dalip attacked his uncle’s head with a sharp weapon. On hearing the noise, people from the vicinity gathered and the accused fled from the spot.
SI Balraj Singh, who is investigating the case, said that after the death of Gurmeet Ram, who was injured in the attack, on the statement of the deceased’s son, a case has been registered against Sarpanch Dalip Ram son of Harbans Ram, his brother Malkit Ram, Boota Ram son of Hansa, Sandeep Ram son of Malkit Ram, Sandeep Ram son of Harbans Ram, Gagandeep Ram son of Kashmiri Ram, Boota Ram son of Shankar Ram, Boota Ram son of Hansa Ram, Harbans Singh son of Mall Singh, Happy son of Satpal resident of Kakkhanwali, Jasvir Singh son of Bogha Singh, Harshpinder Singh son of Hardeep Singh, Ramesh Kumar son of Mahnga Ram, Amritpal Singh son of Swarn Singh resident of Panjawa under Section 302,307,452,506,148,149 IPC. The accused are still absconding. Raids are being conducted to arrest them.
