The vigilance team has arrested the ASI who demanded a bribe of Rs 18,000 in exchange for acquitting two people named in the road accident that took place near Neel Pul in Samrala in 2021. After investigating the recording of the bribe demand and other evidence, the vigilance has arrested ASI Sikandar Raj posted at Police Station Samrala under Doraha.
On the complaint of Ravinder Singh, a resident of Sector 32, a case has been registered against the ASI under the sections of corruption. SSP Vigilance Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu said that the accused ASI Sikandar Raj was posted in Samrala in 2021. Driver Rajdeep Singh of Khandoor Sahib and helper Birju, resident of Sanjay Gandhi Colony, working with Ravinder Singh, became victims of a road accident at Neel Pul, Samrala on March 13, 2021. On that day, ASI Sikandar Raj from Police Station Samrala reached the spot and took both the vehicles to the police station.
After this, ASI Sikandar Raj demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in exchange for getting his driver released on bail, releasing the luggage lying in his vehicle and getting his driver acquitted from the accident case registered against him. Later, the deal was settled for Rs 18,000. He told that the complainant recorded the conversation related to the demand of bribe from the police officer and handed it over to the Vigilance Bureau as evidence.
The SSP told that during the investigation, the allegations made in the complaint were found to be true. After this, a case has been registered against ASI Sikandar Raj posted at Doraha police station under the Corruption Act. The accused was arrested today from Doraha police station by the Ludhiana range team of the Bureau.
