The web of drugs is spreading rapidly from villages and towns to big cities of Punjab. Poison of drugs is being mixed in the veins of youth. Big cities are becoming hot-spots of drugs. The situation is worrying in big cities like Bathinda, Patiala, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar and Ludhiana. Its effect is not only on the current generation of the state, but also on the coming generations. Women are becoming victims of infertility due to drug consumption. It is also affecting men.

Every day one person dies due to drug overdose

The government is making big claims of ending drug addiction, while the ground reality is that on an average one person is dying every day in Punjab due to drug overdose. The present government of the state had also announced to end drugs within two years after assuming power, but the situation which was two years ago remains the same. There is no harm in saying that with time the trend of drugs has increased in the state.

Its trend is increasing under the nose of the police.

Drugs were seen only in the villages and towns of the border areas of Punjab, now its trend is increasing in big cities also under the nose of the police. From January 1 to June 30 this year, the police registered a total of 4,677 cases of drugs in the whole of Punjab. In these cases, the police arrested a total of 6,364 accused. Apart from all this, the police has also seized drug money worth Rs 6 crore 35 lakh 36 thousand 120 in different cases.

Bathinda has the highest number of drug cases at 325.

There are five big cities of Punjab where drug consumption is increasing rapidly. These include Bathinda, Patiala, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar and Ludhiana. If we talk about the entire state this year, so far Bathinda has registered the highest number of drug cases at 325. Similarly, 303 cases were registered in Patiala, 242 in Hoshiarpur, 270 in Amritsar Rural and 233 in Ludhiana.

175 cases were registered in the urban areas of Amritsar. If we talk about CM Bhagwant Mann’s stronghold Sangrur, 212 cases have been registered here. At the same time, the police is proving unsuccessful in nabbing drug smugglers in the border belt and some areas of the state. The least number of cases have been caught in these areas. Police registered only 34 cases in Pathankot, 75 in Gurdaspur, 96 in Malerkotla, 68 in Rupnagar and 92 in Fatehgarh Sahib.

Increasing trend of capsules and drugs

Apart from heroin, opium, ganja, hashish, the trend of capsules and drugs has started increasing in the state along with other drugs. STF alone has raided various places across Punjab and seized 2 crore 68 lakh 77 thousand 596 capsules and drugs. The trend of capsules and drugs has increased mostly in Faridkot, Bathinda and Patiala areas.
