Human trafficking racket is running rampantly in Gulf countries by showing them false hopes. Daughters of poor families with dreams of a bright future are falling prey to wrong travel agents in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Oman. As soon as they reach abroad, these girls are held hostage and sold to Sheikhs for high prices. A girl from Jalandhar, who fell prey to one such agent, suffered inhuman tortures like beating with a belt for five months, stopping food and being forced to do wrong things. She was sold twice in Muscat and Oman.
The girl escaped from the clutches of agents
Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal became the savior of the girl who somehow escaped from the clutches of these agents. After Sant Seechewal’s constant contact with the Ministry of External Affairs, the girl was able to return to her country safely. However, the widowed mother had even given up the hope of her daughter returning alive.
If there was no help, coming back would have been a dream
The girl, who came with her mother to thank Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal at Nirmal Kutiya Sultanpur Lodhi, said that if there was no help from him, coming back from a country like Arab would have been a dream. The victim girl told that she went to Dubai in February 2024 to work through her friend. She wanted to improve the financial condition of the family by working. After the death of her father, she has a widowed mother, two younger sisters and a brother at home. Being the eldest in the family, she decided to improve the financial condition of the house and thought of going to Dubai to work, but this decision proved to be a burden on her life when she was sold by agents in Muscat and Oman.
She was given terrible tortures
As soon as the girl reached Muscat, she was locked in a room in the office and her passport and phone were snatched away. After this, she lost contact with her family. When she did not get work there, the girls were beaten with belts and asked to do wrong things. The torture given there was so terrible that sometimes she fainted. There she was neither given proper food nor was she treated when she fell ill. When she somehow got a phone there, she first called her family and informed them about these conditions.
The agent demanded lakhs of rupees
The widowed mother told that when she came to know about the girl’s condition, she pleaded with the agent to bring her daughter back. The agent demanded lakhs of rupees to bring her daughter back. In the absence of paying the money, she had given up hope of her daughter’s return. When some women came to know about this, they told the woman about Sant Seechewal. After this, she met Sant Seechewal and told him about her daughter’s conditions.
The victim also brought along the girl who wanted to trap her
The victim girl told that when the agents wanted to send her back after pressure from the Indian Embassy, they sent her to Abu Dhabi instead of sending her to India and snatched all her money. A girl was sent there by the agent to trap her. The victim used her intelligence and convinced the girl from Punjab who was following her and brought her back to India safely. The victim also thanked Sant Seechewal for helping her till late night during the return journey. Due to which the return of both the girls was possible.
People should not trust the agents
Sant Seechewal appealed to the people of Punjab not to trust anyone or their agents and not to decide to go abroad without proper information. The cases that have come to his notice so far are very horrifying. There is a need to stop the continuous exploitation of women in the Gulf countries. The condition of girls there is very pathetic. He thanked the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian embassies, who are reuniting these girls safely with their families despite such difficult legal procedures.
