On Wednesday, the Punjab Haryana High Court gave a big order on the farmer agitation going on at Shambhu border of Punjab Haryana since February.
The High Court has ordered the Haryana government to open the barricading done on Shambhu border in a week. During this time, the responsibility of maintaining law and order will be of both Haryana and Punjab governments. At the same time, the agitating farmers can protest at the places identified by the administration.
The High Court also advised the farmers to maintain law and order. The court said that now there are only 500 protesters on the Shambhu border, so now this highway can be opened. This highway has been closed for the last five months, it cannot be kept closed any longer.
At the same time, the FSL report was also presented in the High Court in the case of Shubkaran’s death. According to the report, Shubkaran has a shotgun bullet wound on his head. On this, the court has ordered an inquiry by forming an SSAT under the chairmanship of Jhajjar Police Commissioner.
Happy farmers said – will go to Delhi
After the order of the High Court, the movement of farmers has increased on the Shambhu border. Happiness is visible on the faces of the farmers. Farmer leaders say that if the border opens, they will go to Delhi.
On the other hand, the Ambala administration says that they have not yet received a copy of the order. Ambala’s trader organizations are also waiting for the copy of the High Court order.
The High Court lawyer had filed a PIL
High Court advocate Vasu Ranjan Shandilya had filed a PIL in the High Court to open the Shambhu border. Shandilya said that National Highway 44 has been closed for five months. Due to this, Ambala shopkeepers, traders, small and big street vendors have come to the brink of starvation. It was demanded in the petition that orders should be given to open the Shambhu border with immediate effect. Shandilya has also made farmer leaders Swarn Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal a party in the petition along with the Punjab and Haryana governments.
NHAI suffers loss of more than 108 crores
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has suffered a loss of more than Rs 108 crore due to the farmers’ agitation at Shambhu border. Shambhu toll plaza was closed on 13 February 2024 due to the farmers’ agitation. Since then the Ambala Ludhiana highway has not been started yet.
