Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday summoned Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia again in the drug smuggling case. SIT has ordered Majithia to appear before SIT in Patiala on July 18 at 10 am.
SAD spokesperson Advocate Arshdeep Singh Kaler said that what does the government want to prove in this politically motivated case. The government is not able to provide evidence in the court. He has questioned the CM that in such a situation, why is he politicizing the bureaucracy. He said that the CM should become the head of the SIT and do the investigation himself. Let them settle the matter by sitting face to face, why is the government’s money and time being wasted.
Earlier, when the SIT had sent a notice to Majithia last month, Majithia had knocked the door of Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding this matter. It was argued on his behalf that he was being harassed by repeatedly sending summons. After this, the High Court had given him relief to appear before the SIT till July 8. At the same time, on the last hearing, the SIT had withdrawn the summons.
The police had registered this case against Majithia 3 years ago on December 20, 2021 during the Congress government. After this he also had to go to jail. After being in jail for 5 months, Majithia got bail on August 10, 2022. Majithia has alleged that no charge sheet has been filed yet in the case in which he has been in jail. Even in the allegations being made about drug smuggling, no recovery has been made from him.
