The incident of breaking the maximum security jail in Nabha, considered to be the safest jail in Punjab, shook the whole country on 27 November 2016. This jail break was carried out by the criminals in just 12 minutes, but the main conspirator of this incident, Ramanjit Singh alias Romi, has been caught by the Punjab Police after about 8 years.
The first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and some other freedom fighters were kept in Nabha jail, which has been a witness to history for more than a century, in September 1923. They were arrested for violating the order banning entry into the Nabha princely state. According to the information, Nehru was kept in Nabha jail for about two weeks.
What was Romi’s role in the entire incident?
Romi is the main conspirator of the Nabha jail break, who carried out the incident with the help of gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, who was lodged in Nabha jail. Romi provided funding to carry out the crime and also provided safe shelter to the criminals who later escaped. He also gave his number to contact in Hong Kong. It is worth mentioning that Romi went to Nabha jail in June 2016 and then fled to Hong Kong after coming out on bail. After fighting a long legal battle, Romi has now been brought to India. Romi was arrested in Hong Kong in the year 2018.
How did the whole incident happen
On the morning of 27 November 2016, around 9 am, about 15 criminals wearing police uniforms and armed with weapons in three vehicles attacked the Maxim Security Jail in Nabha and freed two terrorists and four gangsters. As soon as they entered, the criminals started firing indiscriminately. After this, they entered the barracks where Khalistan Liberation Force terrorist Harminder Singh Mintu, terrorist Kashmir Singh and four gangsters Harjinder Singh Bhullar alias Vicky Gounder, Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, Kulpreet Singh alias Neeta Deol and Amandeep Singh alias Dhotiyan were waiting for them. The accused also snatched the SLR gun from a jail guard and escaped with six prisoners. Passing through villages, all of them entered Kaithal in Haryana and then moved ahead.
