In Punjab, now a strict fine of Rs 10 thousand to Rs 15 lakh will be imposed on those responsible for accidents caused by Chinese string. A provision of a reward of Rs 25 thousand has been made for the informers giving information related to Chinese string.

Expressing satisfaction over this information about the steps taken by the Punjab government, the Punjab-Haryana High Court disposed of the PIL. The court was hearing the second PIL filed to curb the use of deadly Chinese string on the basis of a news article. It was reported that a six-year-old child had lost his life due to Chinese string.

The first petition was disposed of with the direction to the authorities to look into the petitioner’s complaint and pass a clear order. After the PIL was disposed of in January, a petition was filed again demanding action on the arbitrary use of Chinese string. The Punjab government told the court that a notice was also issued in pursuance of the order.

According to the notice, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed for any kind of injury caused by Chinese string, which can be extended to Rs 15,00,000. A reward of Rs 25,000 has also been announced for the informer. The court has expressed satisfaction over this.

The court advised the petitioner to contact the authorities and inform about the alleged incident of death due to Chinese string instead of repeatedly knocking the doors of the court. The bench said that if the petitioner is still aggrieved by the inaction of the authorities, he can always contact the concerned jurisdictional magistrate.
