Asha Mahajan, wife of Subhash Mahajan, was brutally murdered in Pathankot on Monday night. Claiming to have solved the case within a few hours, the police arrested the accused, Varun Kumar alias Kalu—a resident of Gharthauli Mohalla near Ramlila Ground. According to sources, the accused is a drug addict and committed the crime to fund his addiction. Acting on information provided by the accused, the police recovered the knife and iron rod used in the murder, the cloth used to cover his face, a gold bangle, and the CCTV DVR stolen from the victim’s home.
Accused Entered the House by Scaling the Roof
According to the police investigation, the accused lived right behind the deceased’s house. Police state that he entered the woman’s home by scaling the roof. During the incident, he had a cloth tied over his face.
When the woman removed the cloth from his face, she recognized him and allegedly said, “Kalu, is that you? I recognize you.” According to the police, when the woman tried to raise an alarm, the accused attacked her face with a knife, causing severe injuries that led to her death. He then fled the scene, taking the CCTV DVR with him to destroy evidence related to the crime.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the police began investigating the surrounding area. The police team gathered evidence from the crime scene and questioned suspects. During the investigation, suspicion fell heavily on Varun Kumar alias Kalu. When the police detained and interrogated him, several crucial facts regarding the case came to light.
