The Pathankot Elderly Struggle Ends After 51 Days
The 51-day sit-in protest by two elderly activists from the Barrage Sangharsh Osti Samiti, Jaini Jugial, at a tower in Pathankot ended on Tuesday. Kulwinder Singh, 83, and Sharam Singh, 87, who had climbed a 100-foot-high tower in Singhodi village in the Madhopur area to press their demands against the government and the dam administration, were safely lowered by the district administration with the help of a crane around 2 pm on Tuesday. Upon descending, the two elderly men bluntly told the administration, “We no longer want assurances, but concrete solutions.”
Manjit Sidhu, a friend of CM Mann, joins the Congress
Manjit Singh Sidhu, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s former OSD and a close childhood friend, has joined the Congress party. Punjab Congress President Pargat Singh welcomed him to the party today. Sidhu’s joining the Congress is being seen as a significant development in Punjab politics. Manjit Singh Sidhu also played a significant role in strengthening the Aam Aadmi Party and worked closely with Bhagwant Mann for a long time. He joined AAP in 2014.
ED tightens its grip on CM Mann’s OSD Ghuman
The scope of the investigation into the alleged corruption case involving Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s OSD, Rajbir Singh Ghuman, appears to be expanding. After the Supreme Court stayed Rajbir Ghuman’s arrest and ordered no coercive action against him in connection with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now filed a case against him in Jalandhar. The case has been filed in Jalandhar.
Anti-drug activist Parminder Singh Jhotha murdered
Parminder Singh Jhotha, a well-known anti-drug activist who led a large-scale social campaign against drug abuse in Mansa, Punjab, was shot dead on Tuesday morning. The attackers carried out the attack while Jhota was in the Mansa area with his associates. Parminder Singh Jhota was shot multiple times in the indiscriminate firing, killing him. Three other young men accompanying him were also seriously injured in the deadly attack. Following the incident, the situation in Mansa district and the surrounding Malwa region remains extremely tense.
10 accused arrested with drugs and weapons
Amritsar District Urban Police, taking action against drug trafficking and illegal arms supply, arrested 10 accused. Police recovered six pistols, over 4 kg of heroin, 500 grams of opium, drug money worth ₹12.90 lakh, 12 cartridges, and a drone from their possession. This consignment of weapons and drugs arrived via drone from Pakistan. Police are currently investigating the matter.
Weather to change in Punjab
The weather in Punjab is set to change again from Tuesday. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for three days. The alert has been issued in 13 districts of the state, raising concerns among farmers.
