The scope of the investigation into the alleged corruption case involving Rajbir Singh Ghuman, OSD to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, appears to be expanding. Following the Supreme Court’s stay on Rajbir Ghuman’s arrest in connection with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR and the order prohibiting any coercive action against him, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now filed a case against him in Jalandhar.
ED Registers Case After Supreme Court Relief
Despite the Supreme Court’s relief, the investigation has not been stayed. Consequently, the ED’s entry into the case is considered significant for the investigation. The background of this entire case is allegations of alleged corruption and irregularities in the Chief Minister’s Office. It is reported that the Enforcement Directorate wrote a letter to the Director General of Police of Punjab, demanding an investigation into alleged misconduct and corruption in the Chief Minister’s Office. Following the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the CBI filed a detailed 251-page FIR in the matter. The ED has now also registered a case in Jalandhar and begun its investigation.
These are the allegations
Serious allegations have been leveled against Rajbir Singh Ghuman and his alleged associates, including allegedly receiving crores of rupees in cash and immovable properties in exchange for influencing the appointments, transfers, and postings of officials, securing government contracts, and leaking confidential government files. Investigating agencies suspect an organized bribery network was behind these activities. However, these are mere allegations and will only be confirmed through investigation and judicial proceedings.
The CBI is investigating allegations of corruption in this case, while the ED’s action could also open the door to investigations into alleged financial transactions and property related aspects.
