At one time, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH) in Amritsar served as a healing sanctuary for the people of Lahore. Following the Partition, Lahore became a part of Pakistan. It is said that in those days, senior administrative officials were revered as nothing short of gods by their patients. The doctors, too, dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the task of healing.
However, in the 21st century, this hospital has fallen into a state of utter ruin. The reason is that the insatiable greed for money among a handful of senior administrative officials has thoroughly corrupted the entire system. Currently, reports regarding financial irregularities involving bills—orchestrated by a senior—are making major headlines.
Moreover, bureaucrats within the government administration are actively colluding in this nefarious scheme. Rumors suggest that approximately 20 percent of the proceeds from these fraudulent bills are being siphoned off as a commission for a senior administrative officials.
Furthermore, even the auditing department appears to be fully complicit in these fraudulent activities, as they are allegedly receiving their share of the spoils—ranging from lavish hospitality to monetary kickbacks—on a timely basis. In light of this, serious questions are being raised regarding Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann—who heads a government that prides itself on its honesty—asking why an impartial inquiry into such massive financial irregularities has not yet been initiated.
There is also talk that a social activist has managed to obtain substantial evidence regarding this financial scam. The activist reportedly plans to put up posters across the hospital premises to expose the wrongdoing in the near future. Consequently, the senior administrative officials involved has caught wind of this impending exposure. In response, he is reportedly planning to seek a meeting with his political patron. However, rumors also suggest that a dossier detailing the aforementioned patron’s own illicit activities has already reached the corridors of power. Consequently, the ruling party has reportedly reprimanded the patron and advised him to distance himself entirely from this issue. One thing is now abundantly clear: the in question is bound to face mounting troubles in the days ahead.
The Punjab Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled for 2027. As a result, the ruling party is now treading with extreme caution, weighing every step meticulously. Furthermore, it has come to light that the party has explicitly instructed all its senior leaders to refrain from engaging in any illicit activities; they have even been warned that they risk being sidelined should any complaints be received against them. Regarding this matter, a dossier detailing the doctor’s nefarious deeds has also reached a prominent opposition leader. Or, to put it another way, they have acquired substantial evidence against the doctor—evidence that could prove highly instrumental in destroying his future.
