Farmer commits suicide in Moga
A farmer in Dhalleke village, Moga, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his licensed revolver on Saturday morning. According to reports, the farmer had a dispute with his NRI brother over leased land. This had caused mental distress for several days. Police are currently investigating the matter.
Firing in Mullanpur, Ludhiana
Flashing erupted in the Mullanpur area late Friday night when unknown assailants opened fire on two young men in a white i20 car on the road from Khanjarwal village to Majri. The driver died on the spot. The car, which lost control after the shooting, struck a roadside pole and was severely damaged. The deceased’s companion, who was in the car, escaped with his life. Police have registered a case based on the complaint.
Food Minister Inspects Arrangements at Tarn Taran Grain Market
Amidst the paddy procurement season, Punjab Government’s Food Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak inspected the grain market in Tarn Taran on Saturday to review the preparations for paddy procurement. BSF Recovers Weapons from Fields in Amritsar
Acting on a tip-off, the BSF conducted a search operation in Amritsar and recovered five pistols, 10 magazines, and 50 live cartridges. However, no smugglers were arrested. BSF personnel were patrolling at BOP Fatehpur when they received information that smugglers based in Pakistan had sent weapons across the border via drones. Following this, the BSF launched a search operation and recovered pistols and cartridges from the fields.
Body of a six-year-old boy found in Faridkot
The discovery of the body of an unidentified six-year-old boy in a canal near the village of Tahina, under the Sadar police station in Faridkot, caused a stir in the area. The child’s hands and feet were tied with thin iron wire, leading the police to suspect murder and have registered a case against unidentified individuals and initiated an investigation.
Suspicious cheese seized in Chandigarh
A team from the Food Safety Department intercepted a cheese delivery vehicle at the Ram Darbar Mandi Ground in Chandigarh on Saturday morning and seized 200 kg of cheese. The Food Safety team stopped the Bolero pickup truck for inspection around 5 a.m. The entire consignment has been seized and stored safely in cold storage. The team has sent a sample of the cheese to a NABL-accredited food analyst laboratory for testing.
