Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Rajya Sabha member of Aam Aadmi Party from Punjab, handed over the memorandum of demands given by various farmers’ organizations of Punjab to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Sant Seechewal met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday during the ongoing monsoon session in Parliament. During this meeting, Sant Seechewal appealed to accept the demands of the farmers.
He said that farmers and labor organizations are continuously struggling for their demands. Their demands in the memorandum given by the organizations are justified and are in the interest of Punjab and the country. He said in his letter that even during the one and a half year long farmers’ movement, the demands of the farmers which were accepted by the Central Government have not been implemented yet. Due to this, farmers and laborers are again on the path of struggle.
He appealed to the Agriculture Minister that farmers and laborers should not be made to cry on the roads, but an environment should be created for them to work in the fields itself, so that they can focus on food production. The mutual relationship between farmers and laborers working in the fields contributes greatly to the progress of this country. Because India is an agricultural country. A large part of its population depends on agriculture.
Sant Seechewal said that the farmers and laborers of Punjab and the country are very hardworking. They are working hard in their fields, but still they are not getting a fair price for their labor. Because they are not being given a profitable price for the crops.
The Agriculture Minister has assured that the central government will sympathetically consider the demands of the farmers and move forward towards resolving these demands. The organizations that submitted the memorandum include Kisan Union Punjab, Samyukta Kisan Morcha Sultanpur Lodhi Kapurthala and other struggling organizations.
It is worth noting that Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, who is participating in the monsoon session of Parliament, has been seriously raising the demands of the farmers in the House since day one. There he is also very well presenting in the House the economic condition of the farmers and labourers affected by climate change.
